Monday Magnitudes--Memories

This might seem like a strange Magnitude but it occurred to me that as we grow older the first thing people say they miss is some of their memory. What I have found, as have many of you, we do not have to become "older" to miss some of the memories we once had front and center of the brain.

Recently I was working with a group, and as is my custom, I use myself as an example whenever possible. It let's people know that even though we make it through some tough situations, we are all imperfect but can change.

EL PUEBLO MUSULMÁN FULANI EN PORTUGAL

DICIEMBRE

DIA 08

Me llamo Lasana.

I don't know about most of you all out there but I always just thought that the 12 Days of Christmas was just another goofy Christmas song. Then last night on my way to work I was listening to the Charlie Brown Christmas movie and heard a reference to the song that made me think.... Well, curiosity and Charlie Brown both got to me so the first thing I did this morning when I got home was google it!! Boy did I get a history lesson!! Here is what I learned.....

DON’T WAIT FOR THE NEW YEAR
By Rev. Dean Beaty 12/9/08

Do not wait for New Year’s night.
Resolve right now to do what’s right.
Your heart agrees that sin is wrong,
And yet you’ve put it off so long.

Though you have tried and failed before.
Before the Lord resolve once more.
Trust in the Lord, who lives within,
To give you vict’ry over sin.

DOS REGALOS DESPERDICIADOS

DICIEMBRE
DIA 09

You Gotta Love The Streets

Words like what’s up, good time’s, and Wodaa fills the air, young man chasings car’s yelling “Hey, Hey” as they whistle to make a drug sell. I see young ladies being pull to the side of the road by men twice their age some with a young child on their side already. Yup, that’s when I know I’m on the streets in the heart of the projects in my Lil town where the lost gather and broken heart s corral.

I smile as I walk sometimes nodding my head to greet a stranger even speaking the language at times (what’s up) I would say. You see, these streets are a different world those who are in them cannot see past the scales on their eyes. The people who roam these streets view the world in an different light. In fact, there is no light for them to view. When I hear a church mention the phase "street ministry" it makes me feel uncomfortable not knowing whom they will choose to be the leader of the pack. You can’t just send out anyone to the streets it must come natural; you have to have a feeling for the task

ERES EL ARQUITECTO DE TU VIDA?

¿ERES EL ARQUITECTO DE TU VIDA?

DICIEMBRE
DIA 10

The Fight of my life, for my life.

Being a young woman of God, the struggles of life is hard to bare.

On the road to fulfill my dreams, I thank God that my life has been spared.

Livin' my life to the fullest! But I constantly have to fight.

To survive, to strive, to drive, to arrive where I wanna go,

I must have my light...and in order to know that

If you have Jesus...with him everything will be alright!!!

DEJA SECAR LA IRA

DEJA SECAR LA IRA
DICIEMBRE
DIA 11

Imagine hearing God sing. Does it sound like the mighty roar of Thunder (Joel 3:16) or like a soft and gentle whisper (1 kings 19:12)? It is powerful and strong, yet unimaginably beautiful, pure and sweet. And he is singing that glorious song over you! Why doe God sing over you? Because he delights in you. You make his heart sing with Joy.
Do you believe this? If not, why not? There are obstacles, you say- your sin and guilt, your constant wandering from God, the enemy's accusations that you are unworthy, and your fear of rejection. God's love for you is deep and strong, it will never be shaken (Is 54:10) You are Secure in his knowing that he delights in you can give you freedom to delight in him and in all that he has for you.

~An Extra Measure of Hay-On Christmas Day

Bill was a simple farmer, yet he was dedicated; always working hard.
Many chores on his list to be completed as his list just grew and grew.
Sometimes he was tempted to renig on completing a farm task or two;
But on this day of all days, there was a job he just could not disregard.

It was Christmas Day and there was a tradition that was just his own.
He loved his Hereford Cattle, and they received only the best of care.
When times were hard, he rarely had extra feed that he could spare;
But on this Holy Day, an extra measure of generosity would be show

YES! CHRISTIANS SHOULD CELEBRATE THE BIBLICAL FEASTS - by Merla Watson

Posted by Merv and Merla Watson

First of all – what ARE the Biblical Feasts? Not Advent, not Christmas, not New Year's Eve or day, not Lent, not Good Friday, not Easter – and DEFINITELY not Valentine's Day or not Hallowe'en!! (More about those on another posting.)

The Biblical Feasts we will present in order, starting at the Biblical spiritual new year, which is not Rosh HaShanna, as that is the civic new year. First we have Passover (Pesach) in the spring, then Pentecost (Shavu'ot) early summer, then a long wait till the fall till the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teru'ah or Rosh HaShanna), then the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), then the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), then the Festival of Lights (Hanukkah), and lastly the Feast of Esther (Purim). (We have a separate blog on their pronunciation on our web site.)

Ancient music developed in China

Music of the western world has built on ancient Chinese discoveries of harmonics. 3000 years ago
while making a close study of the movement of the planets and stars, Chinese court astronomers
discovered harmonic principles that they translated into frequencies for structuring musical instruments. Using strings made from cat gut, they experimented with various string lengths and came upon sounding patterns such as a sounding string when halved in length, produces and octave sound. That is, each division of a sounding string produces harmonics. Taking this information, they applied it to a string instrument and by varying the sounding length of a string, made divisions that eventually led to multiple stringed instruments.

DISCOVERIES ABOUT GRIEF

Posted by Merv and Merla Watson

1) Natural grief MUST occur after trauma.

2) in the case of Christians, its duration can be limited by a Divine intervention in a redemptive form of understanding of what God is saying. Grief must issue OUT of ourselves, or it will turn INward into self-pity, and worse still, into unbelief and idolatry (idolatry of the thing or person we lost, or idolatry of grief itself).

3) The more intense grief, the more intense lesson God is trying to teach us.

4) God showed me that grief was coupled with unbelief, in that I would rather cling on to the present state of feelings of intense sadness affirming it never will be any better, than believe God's promise for ultimate deliverance!! - Shame on ME!!

New Hope for Parapalegics

It is a constantly humiliating experience to be confined to a wheel chair all the time. Because of the number of people in Israel confined this way, a small high tech company has come up with a suit that allows a parapalegic to walk upright and look at people at eye level not just looking up to them. This is an enormous boost in morale for a person who has lost the ability to walk. According to Radi Kalof, who has been in a wheel chair for 20 years, there is no way to express the joy of joining the normal walking public down the streets of Tel Aviv. The inventor of the “REWALK” (as the device is called) Amit Goffer, was paralysed in 1997, and since he does not have use of his arms, he cannot use his own invention. However, his satisfaction comes from knowing that he is liberating others from wheel chair confinement. The invention is controlled by a special computer placed in a back pack and controlled by a small remote wrist band which is set for different actions of the user. Sit, stand, walk and climb stairs are among the controlling settings that the walker uses when he leans forward to set himself in motion.

HOW CHRISTIANS CAN CELEBRATE HANUKKAH AT HOME

Posted by Merv and Merla Watson

You don't have to be Jewish to celebrate Hanukkah. There is much in the feast which tells us of Yeshua, and as you go through it, you will see certain parallelisms. Because the Biblical Feasts are dated from the lunar calendar, this year in 2008, Hanukkah's first night of the 8 nights, starts on Sunday, December 21. (The Biblical calendar expresses it as the 25th day of Kislev).
Brief History: Hanukkah's other names are the Festival of Lights or the Feast of Dedication. This feast commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the wicked Greek King Antiochus and the Hellenistic Syrians who were trying to force Jews to bow down to idols, and to stop all Jewish rituals. In 168BCE they seized the Jewish temple, and used it for worshiping Zeus. Some Jews were so full of fear that they did not retaliate, but a small yet tough Jewish family called the Maccabees, led by the priestly Hasmoneans, revolted at Modi'in and stood up for righteousness, thereby saving the Jewish race. One of them called Mattathius, rose up and slew a fellow Jew who had weakened by offering to comply to pagan worship, thereby betraying the Jews. Mattathius also killed the Greek officer who had demanded Jews worship idols and eat pig, both of which are forbidden in the Torah. (If he had not done this, the Jews would have been wiped out, and our Jewish Messiah Yeshua would never have been born to save us.) After this brave encounter, they found much destruction in the temple, so in 165BCE they cleaned it up and rededicated the ransacked temple that Antiochus had used to put a non-“kosher” pig on the altar. The idea of lighting the candles comes from the fact that a real miracle happened after the Maccabees found only one flask of oil left to light the damaged temple “m'norrah”, and it actually stayed lit for 8 days amidst great celebrations!

There is something to the Bible codes!

Posted by Merv and Merla Watson

At this point, I have read the most significant books both pro and con on the Bible codes. The most informative book has been “Cracking the Bible Code” by Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, M.D. of New York. He took three months out of his very busy medical career and pursued the main scientists and mathematicians that have been studying the “codes” for many years. They are located in Israel and have suspended their very important careers in physics, mathematics and various other scientific pursuits, to devote their lives to initiating experiments in the “literary “ field. After seven years they had their findings published in an important science journal. Considering the topic, it was a rare event to have such a theme as Bible Codes being presented in an affirmative light. Somehow that kind of topic is thought of as being in the same category as space alien's abductions and “wacko” testimonials about the same.
